The third High Level Advisory Board meeting for the Straits e-navigation Alliance (SENA) was conducted on 7 October at Resorts World Sentosa Convention Centre. SimPlus presented its work on the Ship Traffic Simulator (STS), a SENA funded project under the theme of “Secure, Efficient, and Safe maritime traffic Management in the Straits of Malacca and Singapore (SOMS)” as part of the highly important testbed for the IMO’s e-navigation concept.

STS is a decision support system that helps ships evaluate their passage plans for transiting through SOMS. It also assesses the feasibility of any proposed traffic management plans before their implementation in the real world. Maritime personnel will be able to use STS as a component in the next generation VTS when new e-Navigation services are introduced between 2015 and 2020.

SENA consists of members from IMO, IHO, IALA, ICS, BIMCO, CIRM, as well as the maritime administrations of Indonesia, Malaysia, Norway and Singapore.
