Formal Safety Assessment for Singapore’s future port

Formal Safety Assessment for Singapore’s future port

SimPlus has been commissioned by MPA to conduct a formal safety assessment for port waters around the region where Singapore’s future container port is to be developed. SimPlus has followed International Maritime Organization (IMO)’s recognized FSA methodology as the framework for this study.

The study will highlight areas of concern (if any) due to the development of the future container port and other new marine facilities in the region. Such a study is fast becoming the norm in the face of rising coastal development and rapid increase in the vessel movement in port waters of busy ports worldwide.

SimPlus unveils its new product BCPT

Connecting terminal operations and vessel traffic, Berth Capacity Planning Tool (BCPT) is a useful tool in assessing berth capacity of any terminal layout. It is the first of its kind in the market that incorporates berth allocation at the operational level while enforcing vessel navigation in the waterways to comply with COLREGS, so as to evaluate the impact of such behaviors on the berth demand and therefore berth capacity.

BCPT has been customized for use by MPA and a future scenario study has been conducted using the same, to demonstrate the features and utility of the tool.

Going green at a cost?

Going green at a cost?

Going green is an irreversible trend in port operations. But what are the impacts of new technologies and operations concepts that focus on low emission operations? How can they be better tuned to suit different port settings? SimPlus has been commissioned by PSA Corporation to quantitatively assess the impact of adopting certain green technologies on operations efficiency, and what can be done if there is any adverse effect identified. More details will be released upon the completion of the project. Stay tuned.

Minister’s Innovation Award, we did it again!

Minister’s Innovation Award, we did it again!

The AnchorageView system, developed by SimPlus and the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), has been conferred the Minister’s Innovation Award (Distinguished) at the awards ceremony on 2nd Novement, 2010, for its contribution in helping MPA improve its efficiency and productivity in anchorage management and information sharing.

The annual Minister’s Innovation Award was launched by Ministry of Transportation (MOT) in 2002. The Award aims to promote innovation and creativity, and winners are selected based on the quality of their initiatives, which should demonstrate a level of innovation that contribute significantly to achieving the Ministry’s mission and goals, result in benefits to the public and industry and have proven to be cost and time-effective.

Minister Raymond Lim said: “I am impressed by the quality of these initiatives, most of which have already been implemented and are making significant positive impact to our transport landscape. I hope the awards will spur the recipients and others to continuously look out for areas of improvement, create novel solutions and strive for even more innovation for the benefit of Singapore”.

It is the second time for SimPlus to be honored with this recognition. In 2007 SimPlus received MIA for its work on Terminal Operations Simulation System. SimPlus will continue to strive to improve the maritime landscape in Singapore and the region.
